On 19 November, the Parliament of Romania hosted the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Union of Ukrainians in Romania (SUR) and the Ukrainian Language Day in Romania. The event brought together parliamentarians, representatives of ministries and government agencies of Romania, Ukraine, and the Republic of Moldova (in hybrid format), as well as officials from the border regions of Romania and Ukraine.
The ceremony was held in the format of thematic panels. One of them — “National Minority Communities as Bridges for Strengthening Trilateral Cooperation between Romania, Ukraine, and the Republic of Moldova” — featured Serhii Hakman, Vice President of the Public Resources and Initiatives Charity Foundation. He emphasized that the Ukrainian–Romanian–Moldovan borderland is, above all, a space of interconnected ethno-regions whose residents are the most interested in developing cooperation and partnership with their neighbors.
“In the context of the active phase of the Russian–Ukrainian war, the harmonization of learning both the native and the state language — which ensures one’s identity and dignity, while also enabling successful integration into society — becomes especially important,”
— highlighted Serhii Hakman.
