“Hero’s Compass” — the Path That Leads Back to Yourself

The President of Public Resources and Initiatives Charity Foundation, Olena Tanasiychuk, personally took part in a 7-day retreat for women veterans in picturesque Truskavets. Women veterans with very different stories came together there. Each of them brought her own experience of war, her own losses, pain and silence — the kind of silence that is not always easy to put into words.

But step by step — through mountain hikes, painting and dancing, climbing rocks and making their way through gorges, working with clay and jumping over fire, through silence and conversation — something deeply valuable began to emerge. The kind of trust that allows a person to be real. Not strong “because they have to be”, but alive. With tears, laughter, fatigue, hope and inner strength.

Over these days, different stories began to come together into one shared strength. And each woman could feel again: I am not alone. There are people nearby who will understand without unnecessary explanations. People with whom you can hold the line, climb towards your own summits and keep moving forward — firmly holding one another’s hand.

We are deeply grateful to the incredible team of trainers and organisers of Hero’s Compass — for their professionalism, sensitivity, depth and ability to create a space where it is safe to be yourself.

We are grateful to every woman veteran who was there during these days. For openness. For trust. For strength. For tears that cleanse. For laughter that heals. For honesty and the willingness to keep moving forward.
