Call for Photographs Documenting the Environmental Consequences of the Russia–Ukraine War

The “Public Resources and Initiatives” Charity Foundation announces a call for photographs documenting the environmental consequences of the Russia–Ukraine war.

The initiative is being implemented within the project “Supporting Local Peacebuilding Networks to Advance Effective Climate-Sensitive Peacebuilding Policies, Practices and Infrastructures”, funded by the European Union and implemented in Eastern Europe within the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) network.

War destroys not only cities and human lives. Its consequences are also deeply felt by the environment: soil, water and air are polluted; forests and natural areas are destroyed; rivers, wildlife and entire ecosystems are affected. Some of these consequences will continue to have an impact for many years to come.

The aim of our initiative is to document the environmental consequences of the war and tell their story through photography.

The collected materials will form the basis of a photo exhibition designed to show how Russia’s war against Ukraine affects nature and the environment.

For us, photography in this project is more than just an image. It is a document, testimony and memory.

We want to capture what can be seen today: destroyed and damaged natural areas, the consequences of shelling and fires, pollution, changes to landscapes, and the impact of the war on water, soil, forests, wildlife and plant life.

These photographs will help preserve evidence that war leaves its mark not only on people’s lives, but also on the land, water and air.

We invite everyone who has their own photographic evidence of the environmental consequences of the war in Ukraine to contribute to this collection.
