Commemoration of the Victims of the Tragic Events of 1941 in the Village of Bila Krynytsia

March – April 2017: Participation in the Preparation of the Memorial Event Honoring the Victims of the Tragic Events of 1941 in the Village of Bila Krynytsia

On March 31, 2017, a memorial event titled "Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Tragic Events of 1941 in Bila Krynytsia" was held at the Center for Romanian Studies at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University.

Historical Presentations

  • Serhiy Hakman, Vice President of the Public Resources and Initiatives Charitable Foundation, Ph.D. (History), Associate Professor, delivered a presentation on the historical aspects of the tragic events of April 1, 1941.

Book Presentations

During the memorial event, two bilingual books (Ukrainian and Romanian) dedicated to the tragic events of 1941 in Bila Krynytsia were presented:

  1. "The Book of Sorrow" – written by Petru Grigor, in collaboration with Colonel Nicolae Nicolovici, a member of the Romanian National Association of Reservists.
  2. "Blood-Stained Snowdrops" – authored by Dmytro Kyrstiuk.

Both books were based on archival research and eyewitness testimonies, providing a historical account of the tragic massacre of civilians in Bila Krynytsia in 1941.

Significance of the Event

The memorial event honored the memory of the victims and contributed to historical awareness and dialogue between Ukraine and Romania. It also served as an opportunity to preserve historical truth and encourage scholarly discussions on past atrocities affecting the region.
