Drawing Contest on Anti-Alcohol Themes Among Schoolchildren of Chernivtsi

Project Duration: January – March 2011

The project “Drawing Contest on Anti-Alcohol Themes Among Schoolchildren of Chernivtsi” was implemented in partnership with the Department of Education of the Chernivtsi City Council, with the support of the “Nympha – Digital World” store network and the private company “Pechatnyi Dvir.”

The project addressed the pressing issue of high levels of alcohol consumption among children and youth in Ukraine. According to WHO data as of 2008, Ukraine ranked first in the world for alcohol use among children and adolescents: 40% of children aged 14 to 18 were already regularly consuming alcohol.

Project Goals:

The initiative aimed to:

  • Promote a healthy lifestyle among children and youth in Chernivtsi;
  • Encourage them to create visual content advocating for abstinence from alcohol;
  • Raise awareness among students about alcoholism prevention;
  • Support the development of students’ creative abilities;
  • Foster youth education in the spirit of healthy living;
  • Highlight their achievements in public and civic life.

Participation:

The contest welcomed participants from grades 1–11 of general secondary schools and extracurricular educational institutions. A total of 72 entries were submitted, with 7 winners awarded prizes.

Winners:

Junior age category:

  • 1st Place: Hanna Pylypchuk (City Club of Young Technicians “Kvarts”)
  • 2nd Place: Anastasiia Cherveniuk (City Center for Scientific and Technical Creativity of Youth)
  • 3rd Place: Diana Vakhnenko (Children and Youth Creativity Center)

Senior age category:

  • 1st Place: Anton Fochuk (Gymnasium No. 7)
  • 2nd Place: Anzhelika Buchynska (City Palace of Children and Youth)
  • 3rd Place: Diana Artemova (Secondary School No. 24) and Anna Yakobets (City Center for Scientific and Technical Creativity of Youth)

In addition, teachers and art instructors whose students won prizes were also awarded. All participants received honorary diplomas.
