On 20 November in Constanța, Romania, the international conference “The EU’s Strategic Outlook on the Black Sea Region: Goals, Instruments, and Challenges to Democracy” brought together experts from Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, and Turkey. The event aimed to develop a shared vision of security and democratic development in the Black Sea region, strengthen interstate dialogue, and create tools for responding to modern geopolitical challenges.
The “Public Resources and Initiatives” Charity Foundation was represented at the conference by Serhii Hakman, Vice President of the Foundation, and Nataliia Nechaeva-Yuriychuk.
In his presentation “The Role and Place of Ukraine in the Security Architecture of the Black Sea Region Amid the Russian–Ukrainian War,” Serhii Hakman emphasized Ukraine’s central role in shaping a new regional security system. He drew particular attention to russia’s violations of international law, the interaction between the EU and NATO amid Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine, and Ukraine’s crucial role within this configuration.
In her address, Nataliia Nechaeva-Yuriychuk stressed that as long as russia remains an active threat, no country in the region can feel safe. She highlighted the need to strengthen cooperation within existing initiatives, including the Three Seas Initiative, and to place regional security at the top of the political agenda.
The discussions and debates that followed the presentations deepened understanding of the challenges and threats posed by russia in the region and further strengthened the potential for collaboration with Western partners across various sectors.
